What is a Credit Union?
A Credit Union is a member-owned, not for profit financial cooperative. Membership is established in the form of a “share account” that represents your ownership of the credit union. As not-for-profit institutions, credit unions are able to provide more competitive lending and better rates on deposit accounts than most traditional banks.
Who Owns the Credit Union?
You do! As a credit union member, you are a part owner of the credit union. That entitles you to elect and be elected to our completely volunteer Board of Directors, composed of other members just like you.
The Board of Directors sets policies for the operation of the credit union based on the needs and wishes of the members. The Board of Directors also establish dividend rates, loan interest rates, and fees.
Are my Accounts Insured?
Funds on deposit are federally insured for up to $250,000 per member by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), an agency equivalent to the banking industry’s FDIC.
