Fraudsters never take a holiday and that’s why International Fraud Awareness Week (November 17–23, 2025) is the perfect time to brush up on your scam-smarts. Protecting your financial information is one of our top priorities. We’re here to help you stay alert, informed, and secure.
Here’s what you need to know to keep your money and personal information safe.
1. Recognize the Red Flags
Scammers are experts at pretending to be someone you trust; your credit union, a government agency, or even a family member.
Be cautious if you notice:
- Urgent messages claiming your account is “locked” or “compromised.”
- Requests for your personal or banking information by phone, text, or email.
- Pressure to act immediately or send money quickly.
If something feels off pause before you pay or reply.
2. Protect Your Personal Information
Keep sensitive details private and think twice before sharing online.
- Don’t post personal data (like your full name, birthday, or address) on social media.
- Use strong, unique passwords for your accounts and enable two-factor authentication whenever possible.
- Never click on links or download attachments from unknown sources.
Tip: Log in to online banking directly through our website and not through links in emails or texts.
3. Stay Alert for Common Scams
During the holiday season, fraud attempts often increase. Watch out for:
- Online shopping scams that mimic real retailers.
- Charity scams that play on emotions during the giving season.
- Phishing emails or texts posing as shipping updates or financial alerts.
If you’re ever unsure, contact us directly; we’re happy to verify any message or transaction.
4. Trust Your Instincts
If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Listen to your gut and don’t be afraid to hang up, delete, or report suspicious messages.
